Today’s topic for the blog is very interesting, most of the people think that cold weather is the weather of colds, but it is not true. People get this cold in summer too so basically there is a virus which lead to colds, there are more than 200 types of different viruses, but I am going to name some common ones: rhinovirus, coronavirus, influenza, and parainfluenza.
A question arises that, if colds are caused by virus then why do they occur more in winter, every type of micro-organisms need different temperature, as in winters days are short while, nights are long, so when virus is not exposed to more sunlight they get an opportunity to grow drastically in a host cell. When a body doesn’t get enough vitamin D it also provides an opportunity to a micro-organism to live in the host cells as parasites. That’s the major reason that virus occur more frequently in winter.
Below are the tips to protect yourself and your kids from colds:
1) Wash your hands and make your kids wash hands again and again with anti-micro-organisms’ soaps. Then must apply moisturizer as such soaps usually leave your hands dry.
2) Try covering mouths when traveling or out of the house.
3) Get vaccinated
4) Dress well, make sure most of your skin is covered.
5) Try to sit on the rooftop with kids to get enough sunlight to avoid micro-organism.
6) Make kids involved in physical activities but at the same time make sure that they clean their hands frequently.
7) Clean your door’s handle, car, geometry box, watch or any material or placed which is frequently used by you or your kids with diluted ethanol, A 70% solution of ethanol takes more time in evaporation from the surface, increasing the contact time, therefore, it doesn’t allow any micro-organisms there for a long time period.
8) Use sanitizers when water is not available.
9) Use tissues
10) Make kids understand that sharing is caring but sharing germs isn’t caring, so guide them to avoid sharing spoons, toys, etc. It can transfer micro-organism.
